Named for Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Tanglewood Tales and the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s 210-acre estate of formal gardens, Tanglewood is an enchanting place to call home.

The first section was developed in the late 1940s on open prairie and featured one-story ranch-style homes that, unlike homes in River Oaks and surrounding neighborhoods, were air-conditioned – an novelty in that day and age. Home sites were planted with several large oaks which led to today’s shade-covered streets and natural ambiance.

Vast, beautiful lawns are a hallmark of Tanglewood, as are the curved streets and large lots. The outstanding neighborhood planning is evident to this day. Convenient access to major thoroughfares, heavily enforced deed restrictions and a private patrol ensure that property values remain elevated, making Tanglewood one of Houston’s most charming and sought after neighborhoods.
